What vein drains the legs?
The common femoral vein empties into the external iliac vein, which, when joined by the internal iliac vein, forms the common iliac vein. Both the right and left common iliac veins join to form the inferior vena cava. The lumbar veins, as well as the left and right renal veins, empty into the inferior vena cava.
Where is the main vein in your thigh?
The femoral artery is the major blood vessel supplying blood to your legs. It’s in your upper thigh, right near your groin.
Where does the deep femoral vein drain from?
The femoral vein is a large vessel located deep within the thigh.
|Drains from||Popliteal vein|
|Drains to||External iliac vein|
|Drainage area||Lower limb|
Are there veins in your thigh?
The profunda femoris vein, (or deep femoral vein) is a large deep vein in the thigh. It receives blood from the inner thigh and proceeds superiorly and medially running alongside the profunda femoris artery to join with the femoral vein approximately at the level of the inferior-most portion of the ischial tuberosity.
What is common femoral vein?
The common femoral vein (CFV) forms from the confluence of the femoral vein and the deep femoral vein, and continues as the external iliac vein at the inguinal ligament. It accompanies the common femoral artery.
What side is femoral vein on?
It ends at the inferior margin of the inguinal ligament, where it becomes the external iliac vein. The femoral vein bears valves which are mostly bicuspid and whose number is variable between individuals and often between left and right leg.
Is femoral artery in both legs?
Put simply, the femoral artery originates in the groin and runs down each leg, stopping right around the knee. (At the knee, the femoral artery becomes the popliteal artery).
Are thigh veins deep?
The veins located deep inside your body are known as deep veins. A deep vein is usually a large vein—way larger than the superficial veins—running through the muscles of the thigh and calf. A deep vein is located beside an artery that has the same name. There are seven deep veins located in the lower extremities.
What vein is on the inner thigh?
Your femoral vein runs along the inside of your legs from your groin area downward. Femoral vein thrombosis refers to a blood clot present in those veins.
What artery is in your inner thigh?
The femoral artery is a large artery in the thigh and the main arterial supply to the thigh and leg.

Is femoral vein proximal or distal?
Proximally in the canal, the vein lies posterior to the artery in the distal femoral triangle and medial to the artery at the base of the triangle. In the upper thigh, the vein is between the common femoral artery and femoral canal and therefore occupies the intermediate/middle compartment of the femoral sheath.
What are the two main veins?
The two largest veins in the body are the superior vena cava, which carries blood from the upper body directly to the right atrium of the heart, and the inferior vena cava, which carries blood from the lower body directly to the right atrium. The inferior vena cava is labeled in the figure below.
Which vein drains the calcaneus area?
It passes lateral to the calcaneal tendon and ascends between the superficial and deep fascia in the distal third of the calf.
Short saphenous vein.

|Drains to||Popliteal vein|
What is a truncal vein?
Major (truncal) superficial veins in the legs
The major (truncal) superficial veins are the main veins outside of the muscle but under the skin. They lie in the subcutaneous fat and are not usually visible. Rarely, in very slim people sections of these truncal veins can be seen on the surface.
